Lincolnshire Tourism: An Overview Lincolnshire Tourism is a Destination Management Organisation (DMO), the new term for organisations like us, and our role is to encourage tourism growth through the promotion of Lincolnshire as a visitor destination. Established in 1990 to bring together all those involved in the local tourism industry, Lincolnshire Tourism became a company limited by guarantee on 1st August 1998. Our membership is fundamental to our successful organisation. Current members include the local authorities and over 160 private sector members. We work closely with newly formed East Midlands Tourism and Visitbritian and East Midlands Development Agency (emda). Altogether Lincolnshire Tourism is in contact with over 3000 businesses that comprise the industry, of which around 650 take advantage of the services and projects our team initiates. Core resources are provided by the local authorities primarily through a contract with Lincolnshire County Council, but most income is 'earned' through joint schemes, grant aid, EU programmes, advertising and other commercial revenue. Lincolnshire Tourism is generally recognised as being one of the most successful area partnerships in the tourism industry and takes a lead in establishing partnerships with other parts of England as well as within the county. Lincolnshire Tourism’s four key roles are; Leading and Co-ordinating the sector, Marketing - Attracting the Visitor, Visitor Services and Business Support. During the past twelve years Lincolnshire Tourism has developed and promoted a portfolio of tourist products based on the strengths of the county and demands of the market place. During the next five years as competition from other destinations increases, Lincolnshire Tourism and its partners will be seeking to develop the products further, particularly through packaging, online marketing and other commercial ventures in order to make the county even more popular in the marketplace. Lincolnshire Tourism is keen to get Lincolnshire into the on-line tourism marketplace. On-line marketing is an important way of reaching potential visitors both in the UK and overseas and thanks to a £2 million investment programme, sponsored by Lincolnshire County Council and the European Union, Lincolnshire’s online presence has grown. All the staff are dedicated, self-motivated and mutually supportive. All are encouraged to undertake further training and pursue additional qualifications that are relevant to their personal development and to the growth of the tourism sector in Lincolnshire. |
